"It is a classic Black Sage Bench Syrah, packed with ripe berry aromas and flavours mingled with mocha and white pepper."
A sweet yet spicy medium-bodied Syrah with medium tannins. A bouquet of white pepper, cherry, currant, tobacco, truffle, and baking spices on the nose, with powerful flavours of black cherry jam, thyme, white pepper, hibiscus, and roasted raspberry on the palate.
2021 had a long autumn season with sporadic precipitation events that both helped yet hindered picking dates. This vintage was famously smokey and we mitigated these effects naturally. This was a challenging vintage due to a smaller crop, but smaller berries resulted in intense tannins.
The Syrah was 50% whole-cluster fermented at 21 degrees Celsius with punch-downs for three weeks only before the juice was pressed into neutral Ermitage barrels. The wine was aged for 14 months with one racking in July to neutral Nadalie barrels in order to soften the oak characteristics.
