Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
A light-bodied, spicy, and earthy blend of Gamay, Pinot Noir, and Saignée, best served chilled. Bright aromas of cranberry, boysenberry, anise, mushroom, and cola on the nose, complemented by rich flavours of cherry, licorice, strawberry, pepper, and red currant on the palate.
Vineyard Notes
In 2023, following a prolonged cool spring, the weather turned remarkably hot, accelerating ripening. We decided to harvest these varieties earlier to preserve their bright acidity and freshness. The decision to use Pinot Noir was a last-minute choice to enhance the blend and also to mitigate the herbaceousness of the Gamay this year. This Fleur is distinct from our other vintages while still embodying the signature spice, fruit, and refreshing body and tannins characteristic of French Door Fleur.
Production Notes
Our Gamay is sourced from the East Kelowna Vineyard and a stunning vineyard in Naramata, overlooking Okanagan Lake. This year, we had two lots of Gamay: the Kelowna fruit was destemmed and fermented at 21°C, then pressed off early at 5 Brix to allow fermentation to continue off the skins in tanks. The other lot underwent whole cluster and whole berry fermentation and received punch downs only.
The Pinot Noir whole berry and 20% whole cluster fermented, receiving punch downs only, then pressed off at 5 Brix. It was allowed to finish fermentation in large format neutral oak barrels for 2 months before being blended with the Gamay lots in tanks. The blend was aged for several months before bottling.
